García-Villarreal coursed his Cardiovascular Surgery Residency at “La Raza” Medical Center, Mexican Social Security Institute, in Mexico City, supported by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, 1987-1992. Certified by national Council of Thoracic Surgery, since 1993. Authorized by the Mexican College of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery, since 2017. Fellowship in Mitral Valve Reconstruction, Centre Cardiologique du Nord; Saint-Denis, France (1999). Observership for Aortic Valve Sparing Operations (David Procedure) at NHS, Peter Munk Clinical Centre, Toronto General Hospital, Toronto, ON, Canada (2019). Dr. García Villarreal has been awarded with the National Prize of Surgery 2000 “Francisco Montes de Oca”, the highest honor by the Mexican Academy of Surgery, in the year 2000. Dr. García-Villarreal has held several leadership positions: President of the Mexican Society of Cardiac Surgery (2015-2017), Founding President of the Mexican College of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (2017-2019), Immediate Past President and Member of the Advisory Council of the Mexican College of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (2020-2030). Member-at-large (Vocal) of the National Council of Thoracic Surgery (2006-2003-2006). Member of the Grand Jury of the National Council of Thoracic Surgery (2001, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2020).
